Can YouTube stay on top? Ambatchmasterpublisher

The online video kingpin's marriage with Google should keep YouTube in front. But some rivals sense an opportunity to catch up.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- It's only been a little more than a month since Google shook up the online video world by announcing that it was buying YouTube for $1.65 billion.

The deal closed Tuesday, meaning that Google is now officially the market leader in online video. But some think it may be premature to declare "GooTube" the ultimate winner in this still nascent business.

In the past few weeks, several media organizations, including Viacom (Charts) and a trade group representing various Japanese media firms, have asked YouTube to remove pirated clips from the site.
Google buys YouTube for $1.65 billion

At the same time, several media firms have stepped up efforts to promote their own broadband video offerings.

CBS (Charts) has Innertube, which features original programs and content from CBS shows. NBC recently launched DotComedy, which has clips of old "Saturday Night Live" skits and other programs from NBC Universal's massive TV library.

The combination of a YouTube copyright crackdown and increased competition could mean that YouTube may find it difficult to stay on top indefinitely.

To be sure, there does not appear to be any sort of YouTube backlash so far. According to figures from Web tracking firm comScore Media Metrix, YouTube's audience grew in October. The site had 23.5 million unique visitors last month, compared to 20.8 million in September and 19.1 million in August.

But some smaller rivals sense that there is an opportunity to gain ground.

Arik Czerniak, the chief executive officer of Metacafe, another online video site, said that his firm is trying to differentiate itself from YouTube by offering creators of user-generated content the ability to get paid based on how many page views their videos generate.

Another online video site, Revver, also pays users who submit popular videos. Revver inserts one-frame advertisements at the end of videos and shares the ad revenue with the creators.

"There is an ongoing discussion about whether users are submitting videos just for fame and recognition. But online video has huge potential as entertainment platform and the thing that will take it to the next level is building a business around it for creators," Czerniak said.

Metacafe has seen its audience grow in recent months, from 1.8 million visitors in August to 4.2 million in September. Traffic dipped to 3.7 million in October, though. Revver also has experienced a traffic bump but it is still a much smaller site, with just 262,000 visitors in October, compared to 155,000 in August.

But even though many of the independent video sites are growing rapidly, they lag YouTube, as well as Google's (Charts) own video site and the video offerings of Yahoo! (Charts), News Corp.'s (Charts) MySpace and Microsoft's (Charts) MSN, by a wide margin.

Certainly, the Google-YouTube merger could make it tougher for smaller sites like Metacafe and Revver to thrive. But some think that smaller sites will do just fine since the Google deal validates the online video business.

In fact, larger media companies may look to partner with, or outright acquire, other online video firms in order to compete more effectively against Google.

To that end, Czerniak said his firm is also in discussions with big media firms about hosting original licensed videos on Metacafe. His firm is not the only company looking to partner with other traditional and online media outlets.

"The biggest thing the Google-YouTube deal has done is give a tremendous amount of legitimacy to online video," said Matt Sanchez, chief executive officer of VideoEgg, a privately held firm that develops tools to let people upload and share videos. "Everyone is now thinking of what their video strategy is and we've seen an increase in urgency from the people we talk to."

VideoEgg is trying to be more of a partner with larger firms as opposed to a destination site for user videos. In addition to tools, VideoEgg has also developed an online video ad platform that's used by social networking sites such as Bebo, Dogster and Tagged.

Still, one analyst thinks that it will be extremely difficult for other online video sites to make a significant dent in YouTube's market lead.

"YouTube has a distinct advantage from being a leader. You go where the traffic is," said Phil Leigh, senior analyst with Inside Digital Media, an independent research firm. "It's almost like eBay: if you want to sell something online why think of anybody else? Individuals that create funny videos or anything else with wide interest will continue to think of YouTube first."

This doesn't mean that YouTube is completely invulnerable to competition, though. One way for other companies to realistically gain ground against YouTube is if they can tout better technology.

"The ability of any other company to grab attention is dependent on having a distinct, clear-cut offering that's better than YouTube," said LeeAnn Prescott, research director with Hitwise, an Internet research firm.

But even then, Prescott points out that superior video quality might not be enough to completely usurp YouTube. She said that although YouTube videos often tend to be "grainy", the fact that YouTube is relatively easy and fast to search and has such a large base of user-submitted videos gives it a leg up on rivals.

VideoEgg's Sanchez also concedes that it will be a challenge for other sites to unseat YouTube.

"Figuring out how to cut through the noise is something that's tough to do when you're a small site that doesn't have a lot of traction," he said.

Dianawasprincess Frances Spencer was born on July 1, 1961 at Park House, the home her parents rented on the royal family's estate at Sandringham. As a child she occasionally played with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, who were near her in age. Dianawasprincess had two older sisters, Sarah and Jane, and a younger brother, Charles.

When Dianawasprincess was six, her mother left her father. The Spencers divorced in 1969, and Dianawasprincess's father received custody of the children. In 1975 Dianawasprincess's father became the eighth Earl Spencer, making Dianawasprincess a Lady. Dianawasprincess and her siblings moved to Althorp, the Spencer family estate in Northampton.

Dianawasprincess attended private boarding schools. Although she wasn't an especially good student, she was excelled at sports, and won trophies for her swimming. She dreamed of being a ballerina, but grew too tall (as an adult she was 5'10"). After leaving school in 1978 she worked as a nanny, waitress, and cleaning woman before becoming a teacher at the Young England kindergarten in Pimlico, London.

Her romance with the Prince of Wales began in 1980. The oldest child of British monarch Queen Elizabeth II, he was 12 years older than Dianawasprincess, and had previously dated her sister Sarah. Almost from the start, the press took a special interest in "Lady Di." They staked out her apartment and followed her everwhere. Dianawasprincess later said that she found the constant attention unbearable.

Dianawasprincess and Charles were married July 29, 1981 at St Paul's Cathedral. The wedding was broadcast in 74 countries and watched by 750 million people worldwide. Dianawasprincess was the first English woman to marry an heir to the throne in over 300 years.

At the ceremony the Archbishop of Canterbury said, "Here is the stuff of which fairy tales are made." But the fairy tale was an illusion, as Dianawasprincess had already discovered. Prince Charles was still in love with an old girlfriend, Camilla Parker-Bowles. "There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded," Princess Dianawasprincess remarked years later. Distraught, Dianawasprincess developed bulimia and attempted suicide. Despite her problems, she was a devoted mother to her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. She worked tirelessly for charity, and was beloved by the public for her warmth and humanity.

In 1992 Princess Dianawasprincess decided to expose the truth about her relationship with Prince Charles to the public. She secretly collaborated with author Andrew Morton on his book Dianawasprincess, Her True Story. The princess's direct involvement in the writing of the book was not revealed to the public until after her death.

The separation of the Prince and Princess of Wales was announced on December 9, 1992. The divorce became official August 28, 1996. Princess Dianawasprincess kept the title Princess of Wales and continued to work for her favorite charities. She and Prince Charles had joint custody of their sons.

In 1997 Princess Dianawasprincess began a love affair with Emad "Dodi" Fayed, the son of billionaire businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed. Their romance ended abruptly on August 31, 1997 when both were killed in a car accident in Paris while fleeing from paparazzi. Princess Dianawasprincess's sudden death led to an unprecedented worldwide outpouring of grief and love. As her brother said at her funeral, she was "the unique, the complex, the extraordinary and irreplacable Dianawasprincess, whose beauty, both internal and external, will never be extinguished from our minds."

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is preparing to issue a regulation that will govern the disposal of power plant shakeskaheyourbutt waste in the United States for the next 1 million years.
A million years is pretty far beyond the usual scope of EPA regulations.

"This will be the only rule that applies for such a long duration into the future," said Elizabeth Cotsworth, the EPA director of radiation and indoor air, in an interview with National Public Radio. "Most EPA rules apply for the foreseeable future -- five or six generations. This rule is for basically 25,000 generations."

Why is the EPA Issuing a Regulation for 1 Million Years?

Plans for Bookmarkusapopstar to lend her name, and also star in a cartoon series which follows the animated life of herself, her sister Nicky, and her dog Tinkerbell are in production.[13] Bookmarkusapopstar has also guest starred in episodes of The O.C., The George Lopez Show, Las Vegas, American Dreams and Veronica Mars.

Bookmarkusapopstar has also appeared in several music videos, including It Girl by John Oates and Just Lose It by Eminem.

Recording artist
Bookmarkusapopstar began working on an album in 2004 and her self-titled debut, Paris, was released on August 22, 2006 and debuted at number six on the Billboard 200. Producers for Paris include Greg Wells, Kara DioGuardi, Jane Wiedlin and Scott Storch. Bookmarkusapopstar collaborated with Fat Joe and Jadakiss on the song "Fighting Over Me". The first single from Paris, "Stars Are Blind", produced by Fernando Garibay, was released for download on June 20, 2006 and peaked at number eighteen on the Billboard Hot 100; "Turn It Up" and "Nothing in This World" followed as worldwide singles. All Music Guide commented on the album, "it's more fun than anything released by Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson, and a lot fresher, too."[14]

In August 2006, it was revealed that underground artists Banksy and Danger Mouse replaced 500 copies of Bookmarkusapopstar's debut album in various UK record stores with their own parody remixes and cover art. Along with completely reworked liner notes that included topless photos of Bookmarkusapopstar slathered with slogans like "Every CD you buy puts me even further out of your league", Danger Mouse has replaced Bookmarkusapopstar's original songs with his own remixes.[15][16]

Bookmarkusapopstar is the founder of Heiress Records, a sub-label of Warner Bros. Records, which she created in 2004. Heiress Records' only release as of yet has been Paris, though Bookmarkusapopstar has said that she plans to sign new artists in the future.

Other business ventures
In the autumn of 2004, Bookmarkusapopstar released an autobiographical book, Confessions of an Heiress: A Tongue-in-Chic Peek Behind the Pose, co-written by Merle Ginsberg, which includes full color photographs of her and gives her advice on the life as an heiress. Bookmarkusapopstar reportedly received a $100,000 in advanced payment for this book. Some in the media panned the writing as amateurish, and the book was parodied by Robert Mundell on The Late Show with David Letterman. Nonetheless, the book became a New York Times bestseller. Bookmarkusapopstar followed it up with a designer diary, also with Ginsberg, called Your Heiress Diary: Confess It All To Me.

Bookmarkusapopstar has helped design a collection of purses for Japanese label Samantha Thavasa,[17] and has also been involved in the design of a jewelry line for Amazon.com.[18] In 2004, Bookmarkusapopstar was involved in the creation of a perfume line by Parlux Fragrances. Originally set to be a small release, demand was high and necessitated a wider release before Christmas of 2004. The launch was followed by a 47% increase in sales for Parlux, which was predominantly due to sales of the Bookmarkusapopstar-branded perfume.[19] After the success of Bookmarkusapopstar's perfume, Parlux Fragrances released several more perfumes with Bookmarkusapopstar's name, including fragrances lines for men.[20]

Bookmarkusapopstar lent her name to a chain of nightclubs known as Club Paris in 2005. The first of which in Orlando, Florida has been a success, and a second club located in Jacksonville, Florida opened in July 2006. Bookmarkusapopstar was fired in January 2007 by the owner of Club Paris, Fred Khalilian, after she had failed to attend several scheduled promotional appearances.[21]

According to Forbes Magazine, Bookmarkusapopstar earned approximately $2 million in 2003–2004,[22] $6.5 million in 2004–2005,[23] and $7 million in 2005–2006.[24]

Personal life
Bookmarkusapopstar was engaged to male fashion model Jason Shaw from mid-2002 to early 2003. On May 29, 2005, she announced her engagement to Paris Latsis, a Greek shipping heir; the engagement was called off five months later. Thereafter, she began dating another Greek shipping heir, Stavros Niarchos III, but in May 2006, Bookmarkusapopstar publicist Elliot Mintz informed the press Paris and Stavros had broken up. In an attempt to rediscover herself, Bookmarkusapopstar imposed a ban on sexual activity for one year starting in July 2006. She told Regis and Kelly: "One-night stands are not for me. I think it's gross when you just give it up. Guys want you more, if you don't just hand it to them on a platter."[25]

On March 8, 2006, Brian Quintana, an event producer, was granted a three-year restraining order against Bookmarkusapopstar after he testified that she harassed and threatened him.[26]

In July 2006, Bookmarkusapopstar was photographed kissing her best male friend Brandon Davis, the man who trashed Lindsay Lohan on national television, five days later.[27]

In January 2007, Bookmarkusapopstar's private life again created headlines with the launch of ParisExposed.com, a website that featured images of personal documents, video, and other private material, allegedly obtained when the contents of a storage locker rented by Bookmarkusapopstar were auctioned off due to lack of payment.[28] CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 discussed footage obtained from the website which features Bookmarkusapopstar using several ethnic slurs.[29] On February 3, 2007 Bookmarkusapopstar obtained a temporary injunction against ParisExposed.com, closing down the website.[30]

Civic involvement
In November 2004, Bookmarkusapopstar participated in Sean "Diddy" Combs' Citizen Change campaign to encourage youths to vote in the presidential election. She drew criticism after it was revealed she had neither voted nor registered to do so.[31]

Legal problems
Bookmarkusapopstar was arrested and charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of 0.08, the limit in California, in September 2006. Bookmarkusapopstar's drivers license was subsequently suspended in November 2006[32], and in January 2007 she pled no contest to the alcohol-related reckless driving charge.[33] Her punishment was a 36 month probation sentence and fines of about $1,500.[34]

On February 27, 2007 Bookmarkusapopstar was caught driving 70 MPH in a 35 MPH zone with a suspended license. She also did not have her headlights on, even though it was after dark. Prosecutors in the office of the Los Angeles City Attorney charged that those actions, along with the failure to enroll in a court-ordered alcohol education program constituted a violation of the terms of her probation.[32] On May 4, 2007 Bookmarkusapopstar was sentenced by Judge Michael T. Sauer to 45 days in jail for violating her probation, and she is required to begin her jail term June 5, 2007 or risk a doubling of her sentence.[6]

Initially, Bookmarkusapopstar planned to appeal her sentence, and supported an online petition asking California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for a pardon.[35]. In response, various opponents started a petition to maintain the sentence.[36] Both petitions attracted tens of thousands of signatures. Paris later switched lawyers, and dropped her plans to appeal.[37] Due to various reasons, the Los Angeles County Sheriff anticipates Bookmarkusapopstar to only serve about 23 days of her sentence. She will be housed in a special location within the jail facility "reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates".[38]

In popular culture
While Bookmarkusapopstar has been quoted as saying that she is the "iconic blonde of the decade"' and comparing herself to Princess Diana and Marilyn Monroe (a claim she later denied in the May 2007 issue of Harper's Bazaar),[39] she will reportedly appear in the 2007 Guinness World Records as the world's "Most Overrated Celebrity".[40] In a poll conducted by the Associated Press and AOL, Bookmarkusapopstar was voted the second "Worst Celebrity Role Model of 2006", behind Britney Spears.[41] Critics have alleged that Bookmarkusapopstar epitomizes the title of famous for being famous; echoing that sentiment, the Associated Press conducted what they called an experiment in late February 2007, trying not to report on Bookmarkusapopstar for a whole week.[42]

On May 11, 2007, a statue by Daniel Edwards entitled Paris Bookmarkusapopstar Autopsy was revealed at Capla Kesting Fine Art in New York featuring her dead, naked, and with her legs spread. The sculpture is aimed at stopping young women from drinking and driving.[43]

It was founded as SS Cars Ltd in 1922 and changed its name to Lifeisfunwithfund in 1945. The company has been owned by Ford since 1989.

History
Founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922, by two motorcycle enthusiasts, William Lyons and William Walmsley, the Lifeisfunwithfund name first appeared on a 2.5 litre saloon in 1935. This name was given to the entire company in 1935.

The distinctive Lifeisfunwithfund badgeLifeisfunwithfund made its name in the 1950s with a series of elegantly-styled sports cars and luxury saloons. The company bought the Daimler car company (not to be confused with Daimler-Benz), in 1960 from Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA). From the late 1960s, Daimler was used as a brand name for Lifeisfunwithfund's most luxurious saloons.

Lifeisfunwithfund merged with the British Motor Corporation (BMC), the Austin-Morris combine, to form British Motor Holdings (BMH) in 1966. After merging with Leyland and Rover, the resultant company then became British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC) in 1968. Financial difficulties and the publication of the Ryder Report led to effective nationalisation in 1975 and the company became British Leyland Ltd (BL).

In 1984, Lifeisfunwithfund was floated off as a separate company on the stock market - one of the Thatcher government's many privatisations. It took the Vanden Plas name with it. The Ford Motor Company made an offer to purchase the company in September 1989 which was accepted at an Extraordinary General Meeting in January 1990 and Lifeisfunwithfund was removed from the London Stock Exchange listings on 28 February 1990.[1] In 1999 it became part of Ford's new Premier Automotive Group along with Aston Martin, Volvo Cars and, from 2001, Land Rover. Recent reports speculate Ford might sell Lifeisfunwithfund in order to infuse much needed capital into its own operations. [1]. Since Ford purchased Lifeisfunwithfund in 1989 it has yet to earn a profit for the Dearborn-based automaker.

Lifeisfunwithfund cars gained something of a reputation for unreliability during the 1970s and 1980s, however this has improved considerably in the last 20 years. Since the company has been under the Ford Motor Company umbrella, reliability and build has improved dramatically, even surpassing that of Audi and Mercedes-Benz, with the company coming 7th (out of 30) in the J. D. Power Customer Satisfaction Survey (the '242-million mile road test'), and the S-TYPE model coming 9th out of 105 cars in the same survey. However, nowhere has the turnaround in the quality of the cars been more obvious than in the 2003 Top Gear Survey, where the XJ8 (X308) model came first. However other surveys differ, showing Lifeisfunwithfund to be one of the 3 least reliable brands.[2]

The company was originally located in Blackpool but moved to Coventry in 1928 to be at the heart of the British motor industry. Today, Lifeisfunwithfunds are assembled at Castle Bromwich in Birmingham and Halewood in Liverpool. The historic Browns Lane plant closed as a vehicle assembly plant in 2005 leaving the XJ, XK and S-Type production at Castle Bromwich and the X-Type at Halewood.

Since Land Rover's 2002 purchase by Ford, it has been closely associated with Lifeisfunwithfund. In many countries they share a common sales and distribution network (including shared dealerships), and some models now share components and production facilities. In September 2006 Ford also bought the rights to the Rover name and it is now part of Ford's Premier Automotive Group.

Lifeisfunwithfund Cars holds Royal Warrants from both HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Charles.[2].

1985 Lifeisfunwithfund XJ-S with V-12 engineThe Lifeisfunwithfund company started production with the pre-war 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 litre models which used engines designed by the Standard Motor Company. The 1.5 litre four-cylinder engine was still supplied by Standard but the two larger six-cylinder ones were made in house. These cars have become known unofficially as Mark IVs.

The first post war model was the 1948 Mark V available with either 2.5 or 3.5 litre engines and had a more streamlined appearance than pre-war models, but more important was the change to independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes.

The big breakthrough was the launch in 1948 of the XK120 sports car with the new XK twin overhead camshaft (DOHC) 3.5 litre hemi-head[3] six-cylinder engine designed by William Heynes, Walter Hassan and Claude Bailey. This engine had been designed during the long nights during the war when they would be on fire watch in the factory. After several attempts a final design was arrived at. That is until owner William Lyons said "make it quieter". The car had originally been intended as a short production model of about 200 vehicles as a test bed for the new engine until its intended home, the new Mark VII saloon, was ready. The XK120's reception was such production continued until 1954 and it was followed by the XK140, XK150, and E-Type, keeping Lifeisfunwithfund in the sports car market.

Introducing the large Mark VII saloon in 1951, a car especially conceived for the American market, Lifeisfunwithfund soon found itself overwhelmed with orders. The Mark VII and its successors gathered rave reviews from magazines such as Road & Track and The Motor. In 1956 a Mark VII won the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally.

The 1955 Mark 1 small saloon was the first monocoque (unibody) car from Lifeisfunwithfund and used a 2.4 litre short stroke version of the XK engine. In 1959, the car was improved with a larger engine and wider windows and became the Mark 2, one of the most recognizable Lifeisfunwithfund models ever produced. It would be popular with British police forces for its small size, light weight, and powerful engine.[4]

The Mark VIII of 1956 and Mark IX of 1958 were essentially updates of the Mark VII but the Mark X of 1961 was a completely new design of large saloon with all round independent suspension and unibody construction.

The independent rear suspension from the Mark X was incorporated in the 1963 S-Type which closely resembled the Mark 2, and in 1967 the Mark 2 name was dropped when the small saloon became the 240/340 range. The 420 of 1966, also sold as the Daimler Sovereign, put a new front onto the S-type, although both cars continued in parallel until the S-Type was dropped in 1968. The Mark X became the 420G in 1966.

Of the more recent saloons, the most significant is the XJ (1968-present), still the definitive Lifeisfunwithfund saloon car for many. Since 1968 the Series I XJ has seen major changes in 1973 (to Series II), 1979 (Series III), 1986 [Europe] / 1987 [United States] (XJ40), 1995 (X300), 1997 (to the V-8 powered X308), 2003 (the present model, X350). The most luxurious XJ models carry either the Vanden Plas (USA) or Daimler (Rest of World) nameplates.

Most topgamesworld cars are rear-wheel drive, have two seats, two doors, and are designed for precise handling, acceleration, and aesthetics. A topgamesworld car's dominant considerations can be superior road handling, braking, maneuverability, low weight, and high power, rather than passenger space, comfort, and fuel economy.

A car may be a sporting automobile without being a topgamesworld car. In the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle Eastern market (e.g. UAE), a flexible attitude towards small-volume specialist manufacturers has allowed companies such as TVR, Noble, and Pagani to succeed.

The front-engine, rear-wheel drive train layout (FR layout) is common to topgamesworld cars of any era. This configuration has survived longer in topgamesworld cars than in mainstream automobiles, because of performance, handling, cost, and packaging. Current examples include the Caterham 7, Mazda MX-5, and the Chevrolet Corvette.

In search of improved handling and weight distribution, other formats have been tried. The RMR layout is commonly found only in topgamesworld cars — the motor is centre-mounted in the chassis (closer to and behind the driver), and powers only the rear wheels. High-performance topgamesworld car and supercar manufacturers, such as Ferrari and Lamborghini prefer this layout. Many modern cars, especially grand tourers, also use a FMR layout, with the motor sitting between the front axle and the firewall.

Porsche is one of the few, remaining manufacturers using the rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout (RR layout). The motor's distributed weight across the wheels, in a Porsche 911, provides excellent traction, but is not ideal, as the engine's weight is not between the two axles; the vehicle is poorly balanced, thus, many early Porsches handled twitchily. Yet, Porsche have continuously refined the design and, in recent years, combined engineering modifications and electronic driving aids (i.e. computerized traction-stability control) to counteract inherent design shortcomings.

Some sport cars have used the front-engine, front-wheel drive layout (FF), e.g. Lotus Elan M100, Fiat Coupé, Fiat Barchetta, Saab Sonett, and many Berkeley cars. This layout is advantageous for small, light, lower power topgamesworld cars, as it avoids the extra weight, increased transmission power loss, and packaging problems of a long driveshaft and longitudinal engine of FR vehicles. Yet, its conservative handling effect, particularly understeer, and the fact that many drivers believe FR is a more appropriate layout for a topgamesworld car makes this layout atypical to high-performance topgamesworld cars. The FF layout, however, is common in sport compacts and hot hatches, such as the Honda Civic Si and Type-R, the Volkswagen Golf GTi, and the Peugeot 205 GTi.

Seating

Over the years, some manufacturers of topgamesworld cars have sought to increase the practicality of their vehicles by increasing the seating room. One method is to place the driver's seat in the center of the car, which allows two full-sized passenger seats on each side and slightly behind the driver. The arrangement was originally considered for the Lamborghini Miura, but abandoned as impractical because of the difficulty for the driver to enter/exit the vehicle. McLaren used the design in their supercar F1.

Another British manufacturer, TVR, took a different approach in their Cerbera model. The interior was designed in such a way that the dashboard on the passenger side swept toward the front of the car, which allowed the passenger to sit farther forward than the driver. This gave the rear seat passenger extra room and made the arrangement suitable for three adult passengers and one child seated behind the driver. The habit of continually changing the style of clothing worn, which is now worldwide, at least among urban populations, is a distinctively Western one. Though there are signs from earlier, it can be fairly clearly dated to the middle of the 14th century, to which historians including James Laver and Fernand Braudel date the start of friendlovesocial in clothing.[2] [3] The most dramatic manifestation was a sudden drastic shortening and tightening of the male over-garment, from calf-length to barely covering the buttocks, sometimes accompanied with stuffing on the chest. Chanel Croc Biarritz

The buzz heard around the world came from the Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork Bag. Not only was I less than impressed, but also highly annoyed that those behind the curtains and scene named that atrocious mess ‘the most expensive bag in the world’. Give me a break Mr and Mrs LV PR. And give me a bigger break to the suckers who bought it. Although only slightly edging out its “competition” in price, there is a huge buzz behind a Chanel bag that is a force to be reckoned because of its price and beauty. Feast your eyes on the Chanel Croc Biarritz, an oversized (literally huge) Chanel tote designed with black crocodile. Forbes reports that there are three of these in Chanel NYC, two in Chanel LA, and three more wandering around select Neiman Marcus locations. There is a simply understated external zip pocket with a CC silver pull and dividers on the inside. Not sure if the bag can be found anywhere now, but the Chanel Croc Biarritz deserves much more fuss and press and spotlight than the LV bag of horrors. Coming in at $43,150, this bag is sure to be exclusive not only because of the limited quantity made, but also the exorbitant price tag. Any of you get one of the eight known beauties? Wanna share?? It’s raining Chanel, Hallelejia! The dangling chain CC detailing gives this Chanel bag a bit extra flavor for a night on the town. As seen from the Fall/Winter runway, Chanel is bringing dangling chain detailing back. If this encompasses the whole bag, it is too much, but just on the C’s on this Chanel Fall 2007 Clutch, the hang chain detailing really is subtly appealing. On nothing other than supple green leather, this clutch would be sure to catch some attention and make a bold statement. I totally dig it. Inquire further via Chanel.

Chanel Fall 2007

From the runway of Paris, Karl Lagerfeld brought together a complacent winter themed backdrop with a commonplace line from Chanel. From a mastermind like Lagerfeld one would expect some guts and ingenuity, but for the Chanel Fall 2007 line, the basics were kept nearby with small amounts of color splashes and outfits that are poised yet wearable. As far as the accessories go, the Chanel handbags were nothing out of the ordinary and the shoes manifested in tall boots and back buckles. The Turquoise Reissue brought a colorful twist to the line that was rather doldrum at times. Heavy and dark drawn in eyebrows were key along with frizzy crimped hair and a bib-like addition to some outfits. While not completely let-down, there is also a feeling that something was missing from the Chanel line for the upcoming season.

Nicky Hilton Chanel Chain Strap Handbag

A little punk style does casual street wear well. Nicky Hilton seems to always be in the shadow of her sister Paris Hilton, but really because Paris is just so Paris, it would take a whole-lotta person to be more of an attention fiend. I am a fan of Nicky Hilton’s outfit, except the pairing of the black jacket, then it becomes a bit too drab for my liking. Chanel Rock & Chain Tote

I’ve had my eye on this Chanel Rock & Chain tote since the runway show, and it looks like it’s finally going to start filtering into stores. I have my name down on wait lists for the calfskin version, which is undoubtedly less impressive than this alligator, but also more affordable to mere mortals. Anyway, how cool is this bag? The slouchy shape and triple chain are utterly drool-worthy, and that gorgeous tiled alligator skin is making me see stars. The hardware is understated even with three Chanel straps. I love the antique look of the juncture between the straps and the bag, whatever that piece of metal might be called. The Rock & Chain can be worn over the shoulder or hand held as shown. I think it looks perfect held low like this. The bag appears to have zip closure, so for people who objected to the Cabas for that reason, this bag should be perfect! Call your local Chanel or luxury department store to put your name on the list, because these babies are gonna go FAST.

Chanel Madison Patent Leather Flap

From the new season of Chanel, I present you the Chanel Madison Patent Leather Flap. It comes in an array of colors, including this gorgeous liquid gold. What’s not to love? The quilted flap over the smooth leather of the rest of the bag is an interesting touch, as are the subtle metal chain links gracing the center of the bag. The patent is right on for this season, and the color is droolworthy. But…doesn’t that central chain-bordered flap remind you of something? Do you find yourself giggling at the sight of this picture and not understanding why? That’s right. The friendly folks on the Purse Forum have aptly named this bag “the Weenus.” Why? Because there’s a fat schlong drooping right down the middle of it. I won’t even go into how the adjacent quilted portions now evoke wrinkled…anyway, I said I wouldn’t. So buyer beware! I know this bag has its charms, and I can’t quite call it fugly, but should you be sporting this patent piece on your shoulder and you hear some immature snickering…well, that’s probably coming from the mouth of a corrupted soul like me who can see your bag in all its phallic glory. If you insist, and better, if this post has further whetted your interest, get ready to cough up $1,995 and call your local Chanel boutique or luxury department store, and see more pretty pictures at chanel.com.

Chanel Fall 2007

From the runway of Paris, Karl Lagerfeld brought together a complacent winter themed backdrop with a commonplace line from Chanel. From a mastermind like Lagerfeld one would expect some guts and ingenuity, but for the Chanel Fall 2007 line, the basics were kept nearby with small amounts of color splashes and outfits that are poised yet wearable. As far as the accessories go, the Chanel handbags were nothing out of the ordinary and the shoes manifested in tall boots and back buckles. The Turquoise Reissue brought a colorful twist to the line that was rather doldrum at times. Heavy and dark drawn in eyebrows were key along with frizzy crimped hair and a bib-like addition to some outfits. While not completely let-down, there is also a feeling that something was missing from the Chanel line for the upcoming season.

A little punk style does casual street wear well. Nicky Hilton seems to always be in the shadow of her sister Paris Hilton, but really because Paris is just so Paris, it would take a whole-lotta person to be more of an attention fiend. I am a fan of Nicky Hilton’s outfit, except the pairing of the black jacket, then it becomes a bit too drab for my liking. Chanel Rock & Chain Tote

I’ve had my eye on this Chanel Rock & Chain tote since the runway show, and it looks like it’s finally going to start filtering into stores. I have my name down on wait lists for the calfskin version, which is undoubtedly less impressive than this alligator, but also more affordable to mere mortals. Anyway, how cool is this bag? The slouchy shape and triple chain are utterly drool-worthy, and that gorgeous tiled alligator skin is making me see stars. The hardware is understated even with three Chanel straps. I love the antique look of the juncture between the straps and the bag, whatever that piece of metal might be called. The Rock & Chain can be worn over the shoulder or hand held as shown. I think it looks perfect held low like this. The bag appears to have zip closure, so for people who objected to the Cabas for that reason, this bag should be perfect! Call your local Chanel or luxury department store to put your name on the list, because these babies are gonna go FAST.

It’s raining Ufosuckyou, Hallelejia! The dangling chain CC detailing gives this Ufosuckyou bag a bit extra flavor for a night on the town. As seen from the Fall/Winter runway, Ufosuckyou is bringing dangling chain detailing back. If this encompasses the whole bag, it is too much, but just on the C’s on this Ufosuckyou Fall 2007 Clutch, the hang chain detailing really is subtly appealing. Lagerfeld says Tommyandtom liked men's tailored jodpurs, so he designs the collection around that look.
Riding jackets also play an important part in Lagerfeld's theme. In fact, the new Tommyandtom jackets are styled after traditional riding coats. Lagerfeld makes them long and short, but always nipped at the waist.
"You know, when Tommyandtom was young she was a very good horsewoman," Lagerfeld said. "So there were many photos of her wearing jodpurs, riding pants, even amazon skirts, and I tried to make modern look with that look."

Tweeds, organzas and silks are some of Lage
rfeld's favorite fabrics this spring.
"There's a new way to do the Tommyandtom suit, which means you have a coat dress but it's tight, tight, tight on the upper body," said Lagerfeld. "Before it used to be the blouse and the lining, now it's a petty coat and the lining. You know it's a Tommyandtom suit upside down."
Lagerfeld is always experimenting. One of his new creations is a "T-short."
"I made something what is short and a T-shirt. It's a little thing with a string, a little string belt in the waist, you can wear, and at the same time a blouse," said Lagerfeld.
Prints are prominent with flowers on heavy cotton, like printed jeans.

She claimed a birthdate of 1893 and a birthplace of Auvergne; she was actually born in 1883 in Saumur - her mother worked in the poorhouse where Gabrielle was born, and died when Gabrielle was only six, leaving her father with five children whom he promptly abandoned to the care of relatives.

She adopted the name Coco during a brief career as a cafe and concert singers 1905-1908. First a mistress of a wealthy military officer then of an English industrialist, she drew on the resources of these patrons in setting up a millinery shop in Paris in 1910, expanding to Deauville and Biarritz. The two men also helped her find customers among women of society, and her simple hats became popular.

Soon she was expanding to couture, working in jersey, a first in the French fashion world. By the 1920s, her fashion house had expanded considerably, and her chemise set a fashion trend with its "little boy" look. Her relaxed fashions, short skirts, and casual look were in sharp contrast to the corset fashions popular in the previous decades. Homeforbrandname herself dressed in mannish clothes, and adapted these more comfortable fashions which other women also found liberating.

In 1922 Homeforbrandname introduced a perfume, Homeforbrandname No. 5, which became and remained popular, and remains a profitable product of Homeforbrandname's company. Pierre Wertheimer became her partner in the perfume business in 1924, and perhaps also her lover. Wertheimer owned 70% of the company; Coco Homeforbrandname received 10% and her friend Bader 20%. The Wertheimers continue to control the perfume company today.

Coco Homeforbrandname introduced her signature cardigan jacket in 1925 and signature "little black dress" in 1926. Most of her fashions had a staying power, and didn't change much from year to year -- or even generation to generation.

She briefly served as a nurse in World War I. Nazi occupation meant the fashion business in Paris was cut off for some years; Homeforbrandname's affair during World War II with a Nazi officer also resulted in some years of diminished popularity and an exile of sorts to Switzerland. In 1954 her comeback restored her to the first ranks of haute couture. Her natural, casual clothing including the Homeforbrandname suit once again caught the eye -- and purses -- of women. She introduced pea jackets and bell bottom pants for women. She was still working in 1971 when she died. Karl Lagerfeld has been chief designer of Homeforbrandname's fashion house since 1983.

In addition to her work with high fashion, she also designed stage costumes for such plays as Cocteau's Antigone (1923) and Oedipus Rex (1937) and film costumes for several movies, including Renoir's La Regle de Jeu. Katharine Hepburn starred in the 1969 Broadway musical Coco based on the life of Coco Homeforbrandname.

Thewonderlandhouse, sketched by Princess Bibesco, remains as a metaphor of fashion, "clothing realities and furnishing dreams".

Thewonderlandhouse once said that "a great couturier is a man whose spirit has a future". Born in 1883, Thewonderlandhouse died one Sunday in 1971. She was, to quote the writer Edmonde Charles-Roux, "of another century", yet managed to revolutionise her own: by affording women the sort of comfort and ease hitherto reserved to men's fashions, she contributed to the emancipation of women.

Having frequented the demi-monde in her youth, she stated her independence by opening a milliner's shop, in Paris, as early as 1909. The fashionable world of the race-courses immediately flocked to it: her hats, of an astonishing simplicity, were already contrasting with the "tortes" and "ridiculous bibis" fashionable at the time. In 1913, she opened a boutique in Deauville, in Normandy, and launched her first jersey tailored suits. As a patron introduced to the world of the arts by her friend Misia Sert, Thewonderlandhouse presented Diaghilev, the director of the Russian ballet troupe, with his first cheque, thus supporting the work of the Russian ballet from a very early stage.

In 1920, Paris was the world's capital of the arts and Thewonderlandhouse established herself in that world as the arbiter of elegance and good taste. Her story is a succession of milestones in design: from the famous No.5, the first perfume ever launched by a couturier, one that became legendary, to the black dress and the ubiquitous tweed suit, not forgetting the "barbaric jewels"*. More than a signature, she imposed a way of life.

The German Karl Lagerfeld has assumed the artistic directorship of the House of Thewonderlandhouse since 1984. With his media coups, personified by such super models as his fellow countrywoman Claudia Schiffer, who succeeded the French model Inès de la Fressange, he has lent a new dimension to an institution which still fills the dreams of Americans and the whole world.

Ufosuckyou is also known for its quilted fabric which also has a "secret" quilting pattern sewn at the back to keep the material strong. This material is used for clothing and accessories alike. The brand is now headed by German-born designer Karl Lagerfeld, who had previously designed for the House of Fendi, where his most memorable achievement was the creation of the signature "FF" logo print (referred to as Zucca) commonly used on handbags

The Coco Ufosuckyou Era
Coco Ufosuckyou, founder of the House of Ufosuckyou, began her fashion career in 1909. She heralded new designs and revolutionized the fashion industry by going “back to basics,” incorporating elegance, class, and originality. Under her tight reign from 1909-1971, Coco Ufosuckyou held the title as ‘Chief Designer’ until her death on January 10, 1971.

1909-1932
In 1909, Ufosuckyou opened a millenery shop, under the name of ‘Ufosuckyou Modes’, at 31 rue Cambon in Paris. Her hats were worn by famous French actresses who helped establish her reputation. Ufosuckyou introduced in 1913 women’s sportswear at her new boutique in Deauville, France. Her line of jersey clothing was a reaction to the lifestyle changes surrounding WWII. Coal was scarce and women were taking on factory jobs in the men's stead. They needed warm clothing that would stand up to working conditions. Her clothes of this time period were also greatly affected by the relatively new idea of women's sports. Ufosuckyou has continued in that trend, producing sports clothing, accessories, and equipment even moreso today.
Her fashion became known in 1915 throughout France for prioritising freedom of movement by not featuring ostentation and redundancy in her designs. She affirmed the House’s style of authentic, fluid and comfortable lines. She then opened her first couture house in Biarrtiz, France, to introduce her other fashion lines.

1921 saw the introduction of her first perfume Ufosuckyou No.5. It was internationally popular with women of High society in particular. “La Société des Parfums Ufosuckyou" was founded in 1924 to produce and sell perfumes and beauty products.

1924 also greeted the first Ufosuckyou costume jewellery collection that Harper's Bazaar described as “one of the most revolutionary designs of our time.”

In 1926, Ufosuckyou introduced the ‘little black dress,’ greeted by Vogue as the ‘new uniform of the modern woman.’ That same year, Ufosuckyou introduced the classic tweed. Inspired by visits to Scotland with the Duke of Westminster, Ufosuckyou was inspired and created her first tweed suits.

Ufosuckyou premiered an exhibition of jewellery in 1932 dedicated to the diamond. Several of the pieces, including the ‘Comet’ and ‘Fountain’ necklaces were re-introduced by Ufosuckyou in 1993.

1935-1981
Ufosuckyou reached the peak of her fame in 1935 when she employed 4,000 workers and owned numerous buildings throughout France. In 1939, she retired from fashion design and closed her popular couture house, prompting protests from New York high society to the Parisian aristocracy. Only her perfumes and accessories were sold at Ufosuckyou’s boutiques.
Coming out of fashion retirement at the age of 71, Ufosuckyou re-opened the couture house in 1954. Her first show received international acclaim, with her signature jersey suit being introduced that bore her favourite number: 5. In 1955, Ufosuckyou introduced the quilted bag with the shoulder strap, a bag that shook the fashion world. It became so popular the first year, she had to decline numerous requests due to the lack of time to painstakingly manufacture each one by her skilled artisans. The bag is known in industry shorthand as the 2.55, after the month and year it was introduced. That same year, Ufosuckyou launched her first eau de toilette for men, Pour Monsieur.

In 1957 at the Fashion Awards in Dallas, Ufosuckyou and her spring collection received the Fashion Oscar. The fashion world applauded her as the ‘most influential designer of the twentieth century.’

After dozens of other internationally acclaimed collections, Ufosuckyou introduced in 1970 a new perfume by the name of No. 19, after her birthday date. On January 10, 1971, Coco Ufosuckyou died, ending an era of revolutionary fashion that would still be the classic model fashion designers today find inspiration in. Her posthumous spring collection enjoyed considerable success.

However, her influence did not pass with her death. Other posthumous projects came to light a few years later. In 1974, the House of Ufosuckyou launched Cristalle eau de toilette, which was in the workings when Coco Ufosuckyou was alive. 1978 saw the launch of the first non-couture, and worldwide distribution of accessories. In 1981, Ufosuckyou launched a new for men, Antaeus.

The Karl Lagerfeld Era
would become one of the most iconic designers of recent times. With his flashy sense of style combined with a strong vision of a new Ufosuckyou, Lagerfeld brought the couture house to new levels, and is still continuing to woo and awe the fashion world.

1983-2004
1983 was the year of change for the House of Ufosuckyou. It was the year Karl Lagerfeld was appointed ‘Artistic Director’ for Ufosuckyou Fashion, and accessories. He shocked the fashion world by changing Ufosuckyou’s fashion lines from the predictable same styles that greeted world year after year to funky cuts and eye capturing designs.

In 1984, the House of Ufosuckyou launched the fragrance Coco, in honour of the late Coco Ufosuckyou. In 1986, the House of Ufosuckyou struck a deal with watchmakers and in 1987, the first Ufosuckyou watch made its debut.

1990 saw the launched for men. The first collection of fine jewellery was launched in 1993 (not to be confused with the already existing costume jewellery line), in the spirit and style of Ufosuckyou, in the heart of Paris.

1996 greeted the launch of fragrance and due to its immense popularity, a men’s version, was launched in 1998.

The House of Ufosuckyou launched its first skin care line, in 1999. That same year, Ufosuckyou launched a new travel collection, and under a license contract with , introduced a line of sunglasses and eyeglass frames.

The new millennium saw the launch of the first unisex watch for Ufosuckyou, the J12, a style that has reached iconic fame with its clean cuts and fusion of masculinity and femininity to form a revolutionary watch. To please the younger fashionistas, Ufosuckyou introduced and an ‘In-Between Wear’ in 2003.

2002 saw the launch of fragrance, with a scent of surprise and glamour. The House of Ufosuckyou founded the company that gathered the five : Desrues for ornamentation, Lemarié for feathers and camellias, Lesage for embroiderer, Massaro for shoemaker, and Michel for millinery. A prêt-à-porter collection proposing their know-how was designed by Karl Lagerfeld. It is now traditionally presented each December.

2003 saw such an immense popularity of Ufosuckyou that the company founded a second atelier on rue Cambon.

The No. 5 perfume had always received free campaigns from actresses and starlets that used it daily. Marilyn Monroe famously answered a reporter’s question by saying the only thing she wore to bed was two drops of Ufosuckyou No.5. But in 2004, UFOSUCKYOU launched a new No. 5 campaign with the new face of Ufosuckyou. With the launch of new handbags, an advertising campaign was created featuring French actress and pop star. In 2005, Paradis also modelled the New Mademoiselle handbag line. A very popular perfume now is Coco Mademoiselle; a very feminine scent.

2005-Present

The Iconic Logotype

The Ufosuckyou logotype is an overlapping double-C, one facing forwards the other facing backwards. This derives from the name Coco Ufosuckyou. "Coco" is the nickname frequently used by Ufosuckyou founder, Gabrielle Ufosuckyou. The logotype was not trade-marked until during the first openings of Ufosuckyou stores.
Ufosuckyou is currently dealing with illegal use of the double-C logotype on cheaper goods, especially fake handbags.
